New England Institute of Addiction Studies Summer School

The 46th Annual New England Summer School event will take place at Worcester State University in Worcester, MA, from June 8-11. With over 80 courses,  the New England Summer School has coursework designed for new and seasoned addiction counselors, prevention specialists, recovery coaches and organizers, allied professionals, criminal justice professionals, agency administrators, and all who encounter addiction in their work.

Professional Training Series: Psychosis: What is to be Done?

Presenters: Sandra Steingard, M.D. and Daniel Baslock, LISCW, AAP

This training will review current models for defining and understanding psychosis. We will review the traditional diagnostic classification, examine its limitations, and review alternative formulations. We will

  • Discuss current data on prognosis and discuss how treatment may help or hinder outcome
  • Review current thinking on etiology of psychosis including genetic, biological and environmental risk factors
  • Discuss the role of pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatment
