Substance Use Services Mobile Unit

Howard Center’s Substance Use Services Mobile Unit is an extension of our Safe Recovery program and provides substance use treatment and supportive services within the community. The mobile unit serves individuals in Franklin County, Grand Isle County, and Chittenden County, helping reduce barriers to care by offering services in familiar, accessible locations.

Most services are provided at no cost. The program is designed to support individuals who are seeking help related to opioid use disorder, alcohol use disorder, or other substance use concerns.

Mobile Unit Schedule

  • Mondays: Alburgh Municipal Building
  • Tuesdays: Swanton Library
  • Thursdays: Richford Notch Community Building

Program Overview: Low-Barrier, Community-Based Care

The Substance Use Services Mobile Unit offers low-barrier access to behavioral health clinicians who provide respectful, person-centered care. Services focus on support, treatment, and connection to resources, with an emphasis on meeting individuals where they are and supporting their individual goals.

Available services include medications for opioid use disorder (MOUD) and alcohol use disorder (MAUD), along with HIV and Hepatitis testing and urine drug screening, as appropriate.

Support and Treatment Services

The Mobile Unit provides a range of supportive services, including:

  • Case management
  • MOUD medical appointments
  • Individual therapy
  • Education and recovery-oriented support

These services are intended to promote safety, stability, and overall well-being while supporting individuals in managing substance use.

Overdose Prevention and Drug Checking

The program offers Narcan, overdose prevention education, and access to Fentanyl and Xylazine test strips. These services support informed decision-making and help reduce the risk of overdose.

Health, Safety, and Basic Needs Support

The Mobile Unit offers essential supplies to support health and safety, including hygiene items and basic shelter supplies. The program also partners with the Vermont Department of Health and the University of Vermont Medical Center to provide wound care and related supplies when available
